Cabaret founded in 1889 by Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler.

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, regular customer of the Moulin Rouge, had Jane Avril as a friend. She was dancer of the quadrille of the French cancan in the Moulin Rouge. Of her real name, Jeanne Beaudon, she had nickname Mélinite (in reference to the acid picrique which is an explosive). Among others dancers: "La Goulue", "Grille d'Egout", "Demi-Siphon", "Nini Pattes en l'air", "La Môme Fromage"...
