Originally the "folie Sandrin" was a rich residence of XVIIIth century. In 1821, psychiatrist Dr. Esprit Sylvestre Blanche founded a mental home according to the model of a family pension. By hydrotherapy but also "moral treatment" that helped pave the way for psychoanalysis, Esprit and his son Emile treated the anguish of their most famous contemporaries stayied successively Gérard de Nerval, Charles Gounod, Marie d 'Agoult, Theo Van Gogh (Vincent's brother), Guy de Maupassant who was one of the last patients. The doctor retired to Passy in 1847. |
